Windows Server 2008 Web SMTP
8/26/2008 8:31:04 PMI just started a migration to windows server 2008 web edition an ran into a bit of a headache. The SMTP server at first appears to be missing even after installing the SMTP feature. After some digging it appears that it can't be administered from within iis7 manager. However, it can be managed from "Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager."
Non-obvious.

10/23/2008 7:47:59 AMHow do you access IIS 6 from within windows server 2008?
You have to first add the role for IIS6 compatibility, that will install the IIS6 manager.
Nice one Evan - thanks for posting this. Mark
The IIS6 Manager is located: START - ADMINISTRATION or in German START - VERWALTUNG.
Dude, I cannot thank you enough for this precious piece of information!!!

3/12/2009 5:35:27 PMRraaarrgh!!! This makes me ANGRY!!! I spent HOURS trying to understand why SMTP Server shows up in "Features" but not in the IIS 7.0 Management Console! Thanks, you saved me from days of frustration. Hulk rage... reducing... anger... dissipating... green skin... returning to normal...

9/30/2009 2:25:55 PMIf you had of read what is installed when it installed the SMTP you would of seen it shows it has to install IIS 6 manager add-in.
Thanks for the tip. When we leased the new server replacing one with IIS6, SMTP was already installed apparently, and there was no documentation on where to configure SMTP. I am surprised they left that out of IIS7, especially since they incorporated other things into it that weren't in IIS6.
How can we add a mail box?
This is just to say thatnk you for this tip! Very helpful. This halfway house between different IIS versions is really confusing.
Non-obvious indeed. Thanks for sharing, saved me a lot of trouble!
Does this affect Windows Home Server too?
